Frequently asked questions
About my Practice & Credentials
What are your credentials?
I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) in the state of Pennsylvania. I have an associate license which means I am working towards full licensure and work under the supervision of a fully licensed professional.
Do you work independently and have your own therapy practice?
No. I do not work independently or have my own therapy practice. I work under the supervision of Brian Swope LMFT at PHL Therapy collective.
What does "working under supervision" mean?
As an LAPC in Pennsylvania, I work under the clinical supervision of a fully licensed professional. This is a standard and required part of my licensure pathway. It means I receive ongoing guidance and consultation to ensure I provide the highest quality of care. My supervisor and I meet regularly for supervision to support my work and professional development. All ethical and confidentiality standards are rigorously maintained.
What is PHL Therapy Collective?
PHL Therapy Collective is a private group psychotherapy practice that I am proud to be part of. It provides the administrative, technological, and professional community that supports me in focusing entirely on my clients' clinical care.
What is supervision?
Supervision is a required service where my supervisor and I meet on a regular bases to discuss to discuss my cases, support my professional development, and to ensure quality care for my clients. During supervision confidentiality remains paramount. I use discretion and limit identifying details to protect your privacy. My supervisor is subject to the same rigorous confidentiality terms that I am.
What is the difference between an associate license and a full license?
An associate licensed clinician (LAPC) is not allowed to operate independently or be the sole proprietor of their own therapy practice. Full insurance reimbursement is rare and more complicated to obtain. Supervision is required unlike a fully licensed clinician where professional consult is optional.
Logistics & Technology
How do telehealth sessions work?
Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform typically through Simple Practice. Prior to our first session, you will receive a unique and private link to join our virtual therapy room. All you need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a stable internet connection, a camera, and a microphone in a private space.
What if there are technical issues during a session?
Don't worry this happens! We will establish a backup plan (like a phone call) at the start of our work together. You can also contact me via text, secure messaging, or email if you have trouble connecting. I will even make an effort to make up lost time (such as 15 minutes) when I am able to due to technical issues.
What are your fees?
My regular fee for individual therapy is $100 and $120 for relationship and family therapy. Groups do not have a fixed rate but typically range between $40-$60.
Do you offer sliding scale rates or reduced fees?
Yes! As an associate licensed therapist building my caseload on my own with limited options for insurance coverage I will make every attempt to find a rate that works for both of us. I always start by offering my full session fee and if that does not work I aim for a rate between $60-full fee and even go slightly lower in special circumstances. I encourage you to be open and transparent while discussing any circumstances impacting your financial situation (or reach out through Open Path) and I will work with you.
Do you take insurance?
I am considered an out-of-network provider. This means I do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide you with a monthly "superbill" (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. It is important to contact your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before starting, including your deductible and reimbursement rate.
How do I pay?
I ask that you have a card on file for automatic billing. Please use a debit or HSA/FSA card to avoid the interchange recovery fee that is charged for credit cards only. If you are not able to have a card on file we also accept Venmo or Zelle.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours notice for cancellation or rescheduling of an appointment. Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full session fee. I may waive the fee if we are able to reschedule the session for a time within the same calendar week that works for both of us. I also offer a one time pass for cancellations without 24 hours notice. This policy allows me to offer that time to others waiting for an appointment.
Where can I learn more about you?
You can learn more about me on my about page, on any of the directories I am listed on, or my bio on the PHL Therapy Collective website. If you want to really get to know me you can schedule a free 15-minute video consultation with me by contacting me through my email or through the bookings page.
